An Overview of Aluminium, Plastic and Timber Conservatories

Conservatories remain a popular accoutrement and attachment to homes throughout the United Kin111Cgdom and the world in the 21st century. Around for over three hundred years, conservatories work to provide a lovely transition between the main residence and the natural surroundings abutting the home. In this article we look at the thee main types of materials used for conservatories pvcu, aluminum and hardwood.

PVCu

Through the years, many different types of materials have been utilized in the construction of conservatories. Stone, brick and wood have all been popular materials and widely used in the construction of elegant and functional conservatories down through the past three centuries. In recent years, aluminum has become widely used in the construction of conservatories. Most recently, a substance which has become known as PVCu has been widely used in the construction of conservatories throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.

In considering this article, one might wonder about the composition of PVCu. PVC stands for Poly Vinyl Chloride. Poly Vinyl Chloride is a chemical compound consisting of chlorine, carbon and hydrogen. The u appended at the end of the moniker stands for unplasticised or unmodified. In laymans terms, this means that the material or product has not been injected with additional chemicals called plasticizers. Plasticizers are designed to soften materials. PVCu is derived essentially from petroleum or natural gas and common salt. Most PVCu systems are reinforced with aluminum.

As mentioned in this article, PVCu has become the most popular choice of construction material for conservatories in the U.K. and elsewhere today. One of primary reasons that PVCu conservatories have become so popular is because of its relatively inexpensive cost. The use of PVCu in the construction of conservatories have made these home additions more affordable and more available to families across the U.K. and the world over.

Additionally, PVCu has proven to be a very good insulator. Through the use of PVCu, a home owner is able to lower the energy costs associated with a conservatory.

PVCu is crafted to look like authentic wood such as mahogany or oak. Additionally, a flat white coloration is popular with conservatory owners.

PVCu conservatories are easy to maintain. Additionally, PVCu is very durable and a long lasting material that will bring the pleasures of the conservatory to future generations.

Aluminum

Practicality has followed the advancement and utilization of conservatories through the years. In recent times, more and more men and women who are considering including conservatories in their overall home design have become most concerned with quality construction at a reasonable price. As a consequence, aluminum conservatories have come into vogue.

Aluminum conservatories can be constructed at a reasonable -- really, at a low -- cost. The costs associated with creating the aluminum components are not particularly high in the first instance. Indeed, most people who are interested in including a conservatory as a part of their primary residence have found the expenses associated with crafting and creating an aluminum conservatory to be most reasonable.

For the most part, aluminum conservatories are also completely versatile and durable in the construct. In the 21st century it is remarkable easy to find a person or a company that can readily construct a versatile and durable aluminum conservatory. With little direction, a person or family interested in constructing a beautiful and durable aluminum conservatory can find ready resources not only on the World Wide Web and the Internet but through the local home builders association.

By working with the most reliable people in the task of designing and ultimately crafting an aluminum conservatory, a person or group of people will end up creating a spectacular addition to the home that will solidly stand the test of time.

Hardwood

Through the years, architects have made many different takes on the form and substance of the conservatory. Indeed, stone and glass was a popular combination for early conservatory construction. During the Georgian period in the United KingdB63om, brickwork became a popular alternative for many conservatories attached to the finest manses of the day. All along, however, hardwood conservatories have been fashionable edifices.

There are a number of merits to utilizing hardwood in the construction of conservatories. Of course, the primary aim of a conservatory is to provide a lovely transitional space between the cloister of the residence and the openness and splendor of the out of doors. Nothing contributes quite as well to the overall design concept and beauty of a conservatory than the use of hardwood in its construction.

In recent years, a good deal of conservatory construction has relied upon metals, principally aluminum, in the building process. While there are, of course, many benefits to using such materials in the construction of a conservatory, for the purist, nothing is more appropriate than hardwood. As mentioned, hardwood keeps with the intent behind the creation of a conservatory space in the first instance.

The construction of a conservatory itself utilizing superior hardwood remains a relatively easy process. Perhaps the most complicated method of fashioning a conservatory is with stone and rock. However, through the use of hardwood, a builder or homeowner can achieve the same sense of natural balance without the laborious processes involved in stonework and the like.

Nearly any contractor adept at residential construction will be able to undertake the tasks necessary to create a lovely and lasting hardwood conservatory. Indeed, architects and designers tend to favor hardwood in the construction of a conservatory because it allows them a greater degree of latitude and flexibility in their own creative efforts.

Maintenance of hardwood conservatories is not an awesome task. Provided the owner ensures that the wood itself is properly coated with sealants throughout the year, the general maintenance associated with a hardwood conservatory is virtually nil.

As a final notation, properly constructed, a hardwood conservatory will be treasured space in any residence for generations to come. Indeed, properly constructed and appropriately maintained, a hardwood conservatorys native beauty actually will be enhanced through the years.

The Beauty of the Accordion Hurricane Shutter

Hurricanes come every year. Though not all of these are severe like Andrews or Katrina, these can still do some damage if there is no protection for the home. This is the reason that hurricane shutters have been developed since the most vulnerable sections ofB68 the house are the windows that may carry debris when something hits it hard.

There are many types of hurricane shutters to choose from. Those who dont want the inexpensive version and want one that is ideal for the budget should try the Accordion hurricane shutter.

The Accordion hurricane shutter is available in one or two-piece models. It folds and unfolds just like the musical instrument from where it got the name. This type of shutter is fixed onto the window. It is possible to get one that has a lock and key similar to those used by some stores.

There is a lot of praise for the Accordion hurricane shutter. This is mainly because it gives the homeowner the protection it needs when the storm comes.

Its only drawback perhaps is that this looks bulky from the outside and requires a lot of maintenance. Oil has to be placed on the glide wheels regularly for this to open and close properly.

Can the Accordion hurricane shutter do well for any home? The answer is no. This is due to the size of the thing, which will make the house look odd if the windows are quite small.

Since each house is different, those who want to have this for the home should call on a contractor to get the proper measurements for the windows. Most will charge from $16 to $20 per square foot that doesnt include the labor costs.

After getting the price quote from several specialists, your chosen company can begin to construct the shutters for you. It will probably take two weeks or more to have this prepared and then delivered to the home.

It is advisable to have the hurricane shutters ready before the hurricane season sets in. The prices for these models go up during the peak months because of the demand. It is obviously better then to get this at the lower price than having to shell out more for the same thing.

The homeowner should be aware that even if the hurricane shutters in the house are made of wood, vinyl or aluminum, these will not provide 100% protection for the home. A category five hurricane for example can lift a car or uproot a tree that can cause severe damage to the window and the surrounding walls when it hits hard. This is even if that hurricane shutter costs $10,000.

If the price of the accordion hurricane shutter is not in the homeowners budget, it's maybe time to select from the other choices. There's the Storm Panel, Bahamas, Roll Down and the hurricane glass.

Some people use another type of hurricane shutter and have this installed inside the home. This serves as a second line of defense at the same time making the room feel relaxed.

Hurricane shutters are not perfect but until a new line of home protection is invented it's advisable to smother your home in them if you're in one of the aforementioned "climates". At least, the numbers of people who choose to board up have learned the lessons in the 3E6past are now using something better to reduce the costs for the repairs.

Tile Shower Pan Installation Tips

Tile shower pan installation tips can help you build a ceramic shower yourself. Also the more you know about how to build a shower pan, the better you can work with the tradesman who actually builds your shower for you.

The traditional way to build a shower pan is to use masonry to build a base upon which the tile is set and grouted. This is a simple concept but not so simple to actually do. There are several tricks that tile setters use that make it hard for a normal handy person to build a shower pan. The stakes are high when building a shower pan. Most of the critical elements of a shower floor get covered up during construction. If you make mistakes and the shower leaks, there is no easy way to redo your mistakes so everything must be torn out and you get to start over.

See the real reason for a shower pan is that a shower floor naturally leaks. D81The grout does anyway. The grout in a shower floor is porous...water goes through it. Without a waterproof liner under the floor, some of the water in the shower will go right through the shower base and rot the subfloor. So a shower pan has a waterproof liner underneath the ceramic tile designed to route any water coming through the grout to the drain. The drain is especially designed with weep holes under the surface of the floor to catch the runoff that moves through the grout.

The steps to building the pan are these basic processes.

  • Build a solid subfloor, either wood or concrete.
  • Set the drain so the finished height is at the finished level of the floor.
  • Pour the first base layer of mortar sloped to the base of the drain.
  • Put in the vinyl pan liner six inches up the walls and glue to the base of the drain.
  • Put gravel in lower drain holes to keep hole open.
  • Pour top base masonry level sloped to the drain.
  • Lay tile with thinset over cured base.
  • Grout tile.

That's the concept and it's a fairly simple concept with quite a few tricks and also many variations. For example, some people put the vinyl membrane on the bottom and just pour and slope one coat of masonry.

The way to avoid all this process is with a tile ready shower. At least three companies make complete systems that include pans with built in drains all ready for tile to be installed after the pans are set in place. Some systems use foam and vinyl sheets to make the pans in any configuration. Others use standard pans which may or may not fit your application. But the tile ready shower pans save a lot of time and require less skill. The disadvantage is cost. Complete traditionally constructed tile showers can cost less than just the parts for some of the tile ready showers.

Also you can get fiberglass shower pans to use as shower floors. These pans are probably available at your local building supply store. You can use a fiberglass pan as a base and put tile on the rest of the shower. Fiberglass shower pans are not made for tile installation over the pan. Also anything other than standard sizes will be unavailable or very expensive.

You can see there are alternatives to a traditional masonry shower, but there are good reasons why most tile showers are still built the "old" way!

An Overview Of Modern Architectural Design

In the world of architectural design, there are some relatively new concepts that have emerged as consumers want more choices for their buildings and homes. Architectural style continues to grow as the world changes. People, or at least some individuals, want modern and technologically advanced buildings furnished with an int2238erior design that rivals a scene right out of the Jetsons cartoon.

Architects must stay on top of growing trends if they want to continue doing business in this fast paced world. Staying abreast of technological advances, protecting the environment, and all the while saving money, are the key ingredients to the good life in architecture.

Of course, all students of architecture are familiar with the new modern styles of design. Instead of the classical arches and intricate decorating of the classical and medieval periods, the modern works feature clean lines and a lack of the well-known detail that marked their predecessor's ideas of architectural design. A great example of a modern form at its best is Fallingwaters by Frank Lloyd Wright, in Pennsylvania. He has other well known architectural designs but this one seems to be the one most copied and admired for homes.

Architects are also turning green. No, they are not turning into the incredible hulk. They are designing "green" homes and buildings that conserve energy and help save our Earth's natural resources. Many of the structural components are made from recycled materials and are environmentally friendly. They require less upkeep and energy to run. Solar panels are installed to help with heating and cooling costs.

Architectural design has left the medieval age of design and has embraced the sleek lines of steel and concrete into the urban jungle. Concrete is the new tile and the old Formica countertops in homes are now stainless steel that reflect the beauty of the polished silver beams stretched out across the ceiling.

As technology moves forward, so too will the design styles of architects. There will be a greater abundance of students studying Modern and Green architecture across the world.

Metal Gazebo Roof - A Roof For Your Gazebo

When you choose to buy a custom gazebo kit, you are offered many options to complete the gazebo you have long been dreaming of. Do you want screens? Do you want windows? And more importantly, what kind of roof do you want for your gazebo?

You may want a double roof gazebo. A double roof will offer extra ventilation for your gazebo. It is really more of an aesthetic addition. You can make metal to imitate the appearance of just about any other type of roofing. A metal roof gazebo will have a life expectancy of over thirty years. The downside is the cost. Metal roof gazebo will cost from $100-$600 per 100 square feet and the installation will cost more than a shingle roof as well.

A metal gazebo roof may be made of painted aluminum or steel. These are two of the most popular choices. Aluminum and steel are strong and they can be formed to look like a tile or slate roof. These can be very expensive.

The speed of installation is another factor to consider when you are thinking of a metal roof gazebo. You can often find a metal roof gazebo kit that will have everything you need in order to set up and enjoy your new gazebo in the shortest amount of time.

A metal roof gazebo will give you years of worry free use. You wont find holes, cracks or loose shingles when you choose a metal roof gazebo. Tile Shower - How To Tips

Tile shower how to tips can help you design and install your own ceramic tile shower. There are some mysteries about how you build a tile shower, but the answers to your questions are available. You just have to know where to get the answers. Construction of a shower is done in a step-by-step method starting from the floor up. Here are the basic steps.

Building The Tile Shower Pan

The first section of a tile shower to be built is the floor and shower pan. The floor must be waterproof. Ceramic tile and grout construction is not waterproof so there must be a liner under the tile that stops water and routes it to the shower drain.

The traditional way to build a shower pan is to build a concrete base sloped to the drain first. Then top the base with a vinyl waterproof liner. A special drain is used with drain holes below the surface to which the waterproof membrane is attached. Then the tile are laid on this second layer and grouted to finish the floor.

Tile ready shower pans can also be installed. You have several different systems to choose from including, Tile-Redi, Schluter, and Wedi. All use a basic pan, of polyurethane, and different ways of mounting the pan and installing curbs, walls, and drains. Emphasis is on "system" since every part of the shower floor is included and some systems include the backing for walls and ceilings.

Shower Ceiling

After the floor is built the ceiling is installed. Will the tile fall on you? No! The adhesive will hold it up, but you can cut pieces of plywood to prop up each row of tile if you like. It isn't necessary though. The main problem will be the mortar falling on you. So you'll need a hat!

Shower Wall

The best backing for a shower ceiling and walls is Hardibacker cement board. The tile is installed right over the cement board. The wall should be laid starting in the back and then do the sides and front. Use a level and mark lines to keep on track. Use spacers to keep grout lines even. After you finish installing the tile and grouting, caulk the joints between the floor and walls with silicone caulk. Also consider caulking in the corners of the walls and between the walls and ceiling.

Ceramic showers are a great luxury, and if built properly should be trouble free for decades. But what if it isn't built properly?

Bathroom Design in Perth

Choosing a bathroom design in Perth should be an easy thing to do. However when faced with the plethora of available products it can be daunting.

Begin by looking through magazines. Tear out or mark all the bathrooms that appeal to you. Look at the home- themed TV shows and make note of the bathroom features that you like. Over time you should be able to see a common theme/pattern running through your choices. At this point you may choose to go it alone or get the help of a qualified designer, indeed some people find the choices so overwhelming that it is best to get the designer in at the beginning!

Decide which process is easier for you, remember that the cost of using a professional can often be offset by the fact that they can save you on some products, save time finding tradesmen and most importantly save costly mistakes by making wrong choices. You will, in all probability, have to live with the mistake or the dream for a long time. You have to decide which would be easier to live with.

Next work out your budget - a vital step! You cannot have a "champagne" bathroom on a "beer" budget so it is important to be realistic. Remember to leave money in the budget for demolition of an old bathroom, if applicable. After the budget has been considered it's time to measure up the space you will have to work with, you cannot have a giant spa or bath in a tiny bathroom . It is also wise to consider your storage space in the bathroom design particularly for future users such as teenage kids.

When you have worked out where everything will go, remembering it is always expensive to move plumbing, then you need to choose your fixtures and fittings. Tile shops can be ideal for this as they invariably have the laminate samples available so you can put that part together there. If you do not want laminate tops be sure to take samples of your chosen items to the tile shops or tile samples to the other shops you need to visit. Remember your lighting and mirrors as well as paint colours, you are planning the whole room.

Bathroom design in Perth offers so many choices - have fun and enjoy your end results.

Jacqueline Hars is an interior designer in Perth, Western Australia. She is known for creating the "wow" factor for her clients.

She also has an intimate knowledge of where to source the best product and good tradesmen. With this knowledge she can save her clients around 10% on a typical project, and yet Jacqueline's fees are only about 5% of the project cost.

By engaging Jacqueline, her clients get a stunning result cheaper than if they did it themselves. Click the link for Jacqueline's free report on Perth Interior Design.

Custom Bathroom Vanities - Adding Beauty & Value to Your Home

Custom bathroom vanities are a great way to add value to your house or the house you are remodeling. These are not vanities that you will find in your neighbors homes nor will you find them at your local home improvement superstore. It used to be that custom vanities were exactly that... custom made for each situation. They were designed specifically for you and according to the requirements you set forth. With more and more products being made in China, they have even started importing Decorative or Custom Bathroom Cabinets that come completely assembled, with the vanity top, sink bowl, hardware, and matching mirror(s).

So Why Should you Consider a Custom Bathroom Vanity?

The are many reasons why they could be right for your project, but most importantly would be resale value. Buyers like the idea of getting a great bargain for their money and are often eager to buy a home that has custom cabinetry in the kitchen or bath that is unique to that house. With all of the mass produced neighborhoods popping up, homeowners are looking for ways to differentiate their homes from those of their neighbors. Because of this, it is very rare that you won't recoup your investment when you go to sell your house.

There are many things that make custom cabinetry and vanities appealing to many different people but one of the most easy to identify is the quality of not only the workmanship involved but also the craftsmanship. It shows when you have custom cabinets and buyers will recognize that 'pride of ownership' and experience less apprehension when buying from you, particularly if you've taken great care of your woodwork. With higher quality materials, and more attention to detail, I decorative bathroom vanity will hold up much longer to the wear and tear of your family.

The best reason for making the investment in a custom bathroom vanity is for your personal enjoyment. The bathroom is where we usually start and end our day. With more and more people trying to turn their bathroom into a spa environment, it only makes sense to carry that feeling over to the vanity that you install.

A custom made vanity is not only about appearance but should also meet your requirements for functionality. Everything seems to work better when it has its own place and is put back into that place. A good custom vanity will have a spot for all your morning bathroom routine needs.

Where can you find a decorative bathroom furniture vanity?

Even with th9F6e increase in popularity, custom pieces are still hard to find. Since they are not mass produced, you won't find custom vanities gracing the aisles of your local home improvement stores. As I mentioned before, you can find some manufacturers and importers online by searching for decorative bathroom vanities or custom bathroom vanities, but even the search engines have a hard time finding all of the companies that are available because of the lack of traffic they generate. Searching for local carpenters is another way to go, but be prepared to pay a lot for your custom project and be ready for a long lead time.

Most of us have a good idea of what we like when it comes to design features and looks but have very little knowledge of the actual physics involved in getting the look and functionality we desire. Searching on-line is a great way to find samples or pictures of what bathroom vanity you would like to have for your bathroom. It will also give you an idea of what styles each manufacturer or carpenter specialize in.

A custom bathroom vanity or a piece of decorative bathroom furniture can not only add value to your home, but also create a unique focal point for your oasis. By having a good idea of what you are looking for, doing some research on-line, and narrowing down the manufacturers and carpenters that specialize in what you are looking for, you will be able to build the custom bathroom of your dreams.

I have been remodeling houses for over 15 years, and I have found a way to save hundreds on each bathroom that I remodel. If you are looking for a High End Bathroom Vanity , Euro Vanity, or RTA Bathroom Vanity check out one of these links to find out my secret.

The Different Types of Home Siding Material

There are numerous types of siding available for today's homes offering different advantages and/or disadvantages. Certain types of siding are more popular in some areas of the country than others, influenced largely by climate and availability of product. Price also influences the type of siding chosen by a builder or a home owner.

Types of siding available:

1. Aluminum or Vinyl Siding These siding options are available on new homes as well as often put on over older types of siding. The biggest advantage of this type of siding is that they do not require painting. The disadvantage is that aluminum siding dents and vinyl siding cracks. Vinyl siding has improved over time as the quality of vinyl improves.

2. Masonite Siding or Hardi Plank These siding options have a similar appearance but offer very different results. Masonite siding deteriorates over time and requires painting, caulking and routine upkeep. Hardi Plank (a brand name) is a similar looking product but is made of cement and therefore does not rot. It is growing in popularity and is a terrific alternative to Masonite.

3. Brick or Stone Both of these products provide an excellent siding option. They are virtually indestructible as well as attractive. They do not require the routine maintenance that other types of siding require. The biggest drawback is price, although in some areas of the country it is still very affordable.

4. Stucco Traditional stucco is made with cement and offers a solid, lasting, moisture proof siding. It is seen a great deal in Florida where the climate would require constant upkeep on other 567types of siding and the solid cement siding keeps the houses cooler than traditional siding.

5. Cedar Shakes For those who love the look of cedar shakes, it is an excellent alternative to Masonite siding as it requires less maintenance. When treated with stain it does not rot or peel.

6. Veneer & Synthetic Siding These siding alternatives give you the appearance of other types such as stucco or brick, but do not give you the quality or longevity.

7. Clapboard Siding that is made from solid wood is more costly than other types of siding but lasts longer and looks better than other manufactured sidings such as Masonite. It is also a product that lends itself well to stain and therefore will not peel as siding that is painted.

8. Steel and Vinyl Coatings These are becoming more and more popular. They are more expensive but are nearly indestructible thus requiring little maintenance. Vinyl Coatings are applied like paint but are much thicker. Since it is a relatively new product it is important to find a company that will apply it correctly as applying incorrectly can cause many problems.

Building a Home Addition

Besides providing your home with more living space, a home addition can be a terrific investment. However, before embarking on such a project the homeowner should first consider several important items. These items include: home market values in the neighborhood, financing, size and scale of project, architecture, timetable for completion, personal disruption/inconvenience threshold and the sweat equity commitment level.

Size of Addition and Market Value

Prior to actually breaking ground on a home addition, it is best to first determine what you are looking for in terms of additional living space. For example: How many square feet? What types of rooms? Once this is understood, it is then important to find out the market value of homes in the local area with similar size and features to the new and improved home. With this information the homeowner can then calculate the difference between their current home market value and the new and improved home market value. This difference should represent the maximum budget for the new addition if a positive investment is desired. For example, a homeowner would not want to spend $50,000 on a new home addition that provides only $25,000 in increased market value to the improved home.

Financing

The next important question involves how to fund the home addition. Unless the project is being funded via cash/savings then financing will be required. If current mortgage rates are higher than the existing mortgage, then a home equity loan will probably make the most sense. If current mortgage rates are lower than the existing mortgage, then refinancing the entire home, including the cost of the home addition project, may make the most sense.

Architectural Considerations

Once the financial items have been addressed it is then time to focus on the size and scale of the project, as well as the architectural and aesthetics of the new addition. The addition should be of size and scale such that it aesthetically melds into the original house. It should not be too small or too big. Frequently, homeowners get carried away and add large amounts of new living space without sufficient thought on the outside appearance. From a market value, there is more to a home than just pure living space. A home needs to maintain its exterior aesthetics as well. It is important to consider such items as siding, doors, windows, rooflines, and elevations. All should meld into the existing home exterior seamlessly and aesthetically.

If an architect is not planned for the project, then the homeowner should at least make some sketches of the home exterior with the new addition. The building inspector will probably require them anyways during the permit process. Also, there are many Home Design software packages on the market today that can help create such drawings.

Schedule and Sweat Equity Commitment

The next two items that should be considered include the timetable for completing the project and the homeowner sweaty equity commitment level. Many homeowners assume they can do a lot more than they are either skilled to do or have the time to do. From personal experience, I would suggest contracting out the site/ground work, rough framing, Roofing, siding, heating/cooling, and the drywall. All of these tasks require skill, time and brawn. If local laws permit, electric and plumbing may be tackled by the homeowner. However, both require skill and can be life threatening if not performed properly. Other tasks that a homeowner could tackle include installing interior doors, finish trim, painting, cabinet installation, tiling and hardwood flooring. Prior to a homeowner signing up to any specific task however, they should first honestly assess their skill and available time, and compare them to their project schedule. If they dont match, hire the contractor.

Threshold of Inconvenience and Disruption

Finally, a homeowner should consider their threshold for inconvenience and disruption. A home addition, particularly if it involves the kitchen, is very disruptive to todays busy lifestyles. It is also a dusty, dirty and noisy endeavor. In addition, dealing with subcontractors can be challenging at times. For a typical addition anticipate several months of effort and inconvenience.

If after assessing all these issues you are still willing to move forward with the project, contact your subcontractors, pull your permits and get ready for an exciting time. For most homeowners tackling a home addition is a positive experience that provides both new living space and a great investment.

Bathroom Remodels

There are a myriad of different reasons homeowners choose to remodel their bathroom. It seems though that the one of the most popular reasons is people want a functional yet more inviting bathroom, wh16B3ere they relax after a long day's hard work. Since a bathroom is a place where so much time is spent, it makes sense to have one that has a soothing, almost spa-like atmosphere. Today, bathrooms can be furnished with several different amenities including whirlpool bathtubs, steam showers, heated towel racks, and so on.

More and more homeowners are also deciding to take a more hands-on approach to their bathroom remodels and decide to do it themselves. Before you begin such a large remodel project by yourself, you should determine a few things so you know where to begin. Some of your decisions may be influenced by what particular bathroom it is (a full bathroom used by family and guests or the private master bathroom). In addition, you will have to determine if the size of the bathroom is adequate, if you want to replace any fixtures or bath furniture, and if you are going to completely remodel the bath and or shower. These will all significantly impact how minimal or extensive the remodel is.

Once you have determined what you want the remodel to accomplish (i.e. a new shower, bigger bathroom, etc.), you need to figure out how you want the design. Research online and through magazines to get an idea of the design and dcor you want for the bathroom. Do you want a traditional bathroom or something with a more modern feel? Pick out fixtures, bath furniture, and dcor that matches the style you want.

You also need to decide a budget. This is definitely one of the first things you should do since it will greatly influence everything else, from how extensive the remodel is to what kind of fixtures and bath furniture you select. Performing a do-it-yourself remodel will definitely help save money since you will not have to pay for labor.

Aside from the fact that you will get to enjoy a beautiful new bath, the great thing about a bathroom remodel is that it is a sound investment and will increase the value of your home. Should you ever decide to sell, it will increase the dollar value of the home as well as its selling appeal to buyers.

However it has never been a better time for creativity in bathroom design, since for almost any bathroom decorating idea you may have there is certainly a countertop surface material, pattern and color to fit your needs. One factor that will determine your choice of bathroom and vanity countertop besides appearance and cost will probably be durability and maintenance. Here are some of the more popular bathroom vanity counter top surfaces you'll encounter:

Laminate Bathroom Countertops
A popular choice for years due to its versatility and affordability. Available in so many colors, patterns and textures that it's a breeze to coordinate with your other bathroom design elements like wall covering or fixtures. When installed on counters plastic laminate resists moisture superbly and is easy to maintain. Laminate is available in different grades, but basically affordable so don't buy the cheapest, get your moneys worth.

Ceramic Tile Bathroom Countertops
Impervious to water, durable and easy to clean tile bathroom countertops offer a great opportunity to bring individual style and personality to your bathroom. Available in many colors, shapes and finishes. Even hand painted. Very versatile. Don't select a fragile tile and you must use a grout sealer in areas exposed to water. Tile comes in two finishes, glazed and unglazed.

Stone and Concrete Bathroom Countertops
Granite, marble, and slate will probably be the most expensive choices for your bathroom countertop. They are have a rich, elegant appearance and are natural stone that is extremely durable. Becoming more popular are two other materials, they are limestone and concrete. Limestone has more of a textured appeal compared to granite and the other stone countertop surfaces. While concrete offers flexibility. It can be shaped, carved, inlaid with objects or colored. Though it offers many new creative possibilities concrete tends to crack easy.

Solid Surface Bathroom Countertops
Man made and very durable this synthetic made of acrylic or polyester is easily maintained. It comes in varied colors and textures, even faux stone. Solid surfacing material is used to fabricate counter tops, shower enclosures and even floors. It is not cheap, as a matter of fact it can cost almost as much as marble or granite. It is impervious to abrasions, water and dents that could occur over time. And it is easy to repair if necessary. Solid surface materials possess a lasting durability requiring minimal maintenance.

As you can see there is a counter top surface choice that should fit your maintenance requirements, decorating and bathroom design ideas as well as your budget. Opt In Email List Building Tactics For Continual List Growth

One of the most important elements of any internet entrepreneurs business is their email list of customers and subscribers. If you are not in the process of building an email list now, then you are leaving thousands of dollars of profits on the table. Building an opt in email list of responsive subscribers is mandatory in order to fully optimize the profit gaining potential of your internet business. Therefore, discussed below are a few opt in email list building tactics that will help you to start building your income to the next level.

The first thing that you need to do is study and research your target market. You need to fully gain knowledge about your target audience in order to know how you will locate this market, as well as the type of content you will give them once they are on your email list. If you understand exactly where your target market congregates, what they like and dislike, you can be effective in building your email list as well as extracting major profits from your email list. The major key part of this step is to get an understanding of where to find them, as well as what they need.

Once you know exactly what your target market needs, the next thing that you need to do is create a small report that will slightly address their need. You can easily outsource the creation of this report by going to the various freelance websites out there and submit a project.

The next thing you must do for your opt in email list building campaign is to design a name squeeze page, commonly known as an email opt in landing page. When your visitors land on this page, they only have one option, and that is to sign up. Therefore, in order to get them to sign up, you must provide some good copy on your squeeze page to provoke them to respond in giving you their name and email address.

After you have your squeeze page and report created, you need to begin sending targeted traffic to the squeeze page. Like I stated earlier, if you know where your target market congregates, then you will know where you would need to advertise in order to get them on your email list. A good place to begin is at an online forum or discussion board that is specific to your niche market. Just participate in the forum discussion and provide quality advice as often as you can. Make sure you include the link to your name squeeze page within the signature of your forum posts.

Building A List Through a Joint Venture Giveaway

If youre new to making money online, undoubtedly you have heard that building a list of email addresses is key to your success.

Once you have a list, you can use it to your advantage in many ways. First, and most obvious, you can market goods and services to your list. You can use your email list to promote your initial offering, plus backend sales, upsales and newly launched versions of your product.

Selling is not the only way you benefit by building a list, however. You can use a list to conduct surveys to discover what products your subscribers want and how much they will pay for it. You can use your list for market research. You can solicit testimonials for your website and other marketing materials. You can use your list to beta test a new product. You can use your list to seek joint venture partners.

If you are new to making money online, the question going through your mind is probably, Fine. But how do I go about building this list that everyone says I need?

There are many approaches to list building. Participating in a joint venture giveaway is one way.

In a joint venture giveaway, the host invites other Internet marketers to donate a gift. This gift can be an electronic document such as an ebook or report, a subscription to a membership web site, audio files, video files, a software application, free graphics or anything else that can be provided online.

If you dont have a product or service to donate, visit eBay and search for ebooks. You will find an array of items that come with PLR rights (Private Label Rights). PLR rights allow you to resell or give away the documents. You can even rewrite PLR documents and add your name as the writer. Check out the rights information on the product to be double sure you can give the product away before purchasing it.

Items in the public domain also make good free gifts. Being in the public domain means that the item is copyright free and you can give it away. You cannot claim to be the writer, however. To locate, run a search for public domain ebooks.

Back to the joint venture giveaway. The gift-givers are called joint venture partners. Each joint venture partner invites other people to visit the giveaway and take as many free gifts as they want. If you dont have an email list to find members, perhaps you can invite some friends or notify the members of an email group or forum. (Be sure the rules permit this before you post).

So how does this help you with building a list? When joint venture members click through your link on the giveaway page to collect the gift, they arrive at a squeeze page. A squeeze page is a page that asks for a visitors email address before receiving the information to collect the gift. You set this up using a form and an autoresponder. If you dont have an autoresponder, run a search for autoresponder and you will find many offerings.

After submitting the form with the email address, the visitor is taken to a page where they receive information about the gift and the download. You might also include a sales letter for another product or service on this page. Place the download information at the bottom, below the sales letter so the visitor will view your letter first.

Youre on your way to building a list. Be sure to treat your list members with respect. They are a valuable resource that you want to nurture and maintain.

Is Dubai Getting Over-Stretched?

Dubai's bullish economy might be creating ripples across the world, but there is a suspicion among some pundits that it might get over-stretched in the longer run, in its attempt of gaining invisibility. The policy of developing world-class infrastructure to entice investors, entrepreneurs and tourists might be proving successful as of today, but it has also resulted into soaring real estate rates and city congestion in the recent times. This may result into some highly expensive office and living accommodations in a few years from now. Dubai hotels and Dubai apartments, a key area for the local tourism industry and economy, might get hit hard due to sharp price hikes in the future.

Dubai's office blocks are quoted as the most expensive ones across the Middle East, and the scenario won't change until many upcoming projects got fully commissioned. There is a growing concern that many existing and prospective buyers might decide to look out for cheaper alternatives elsewhere, within the UAE and outside, both. Many commuters working in Dubai have to spend up to three hours making a round trip from Sharjah. It's simply out of question for them to reside in a lavishly expensive Dubai. To add to their woes, the public transport system and routes are highly overloaded. Many steps initiated by the city planners to minimize road congestion haven't produced results until today.

The desire of having the tallest and largest buildings and the fastest growing economy on its soil has led Dubai into a construction mania. Up to 25% of all construction cranes in the world are currently stationed at Dubai. At least fifty of them are employed at Burj Dubai alone to help it rise atop the Arabian sky as the world's tallest building. Burj Al Arab, the pride of Dubai hotels, is already known to be the world's largest hotel. There are numerous projects either under way or in the pipeline that could leave even some leading cities of the West dwarfed. This might highly raise Dubai's real estate rates however, driving away many prospective buyers in a few years from now.

According to a recently issued report by the Middle East Economic Digest, the cost of Dubai's planned and under way projects is expected to total around $310 billion over the next decade. Up to $230 billion of this capital is expected to go in the property sector alone, indicating at the frenzy about to be unleashed therein. Prices might naturally fall down as a result, once many of the underway construction projects got completed in the longer period. This might tilt the demand-supply ratio in the favor of the latter, making Dubai to be the cheapest destination across the Middle East, say about in a decade from now. You might have to cope with some of the cheapest office blocks, Dubai apartments and hotels, as a result, in the longer run. Dubai apartments are greatly admired across the Middle East for their class, aura and style, and are always in a great demand. Any future fall down in their rates could severely affect the emirate's economy as well, and that's a major concern.

Dubai is a city of free-trade, world famous landmarks and soaring dreams. The hospitality extended by Dubai hotels and apartments is universally acclaimed. Investors, travelers and entrepreneurs from across the globe are lining up to be part of its success story. Any misadventure by its own planners could result into serious concerns in the future however, and that's why some kind of regulation should be placed from within the policy-making elite itself.

Keep Your Brand, Your Legacy, and Your Income Growing Long After You're Gone

How can Elvis Presley earn much more dead than alive--$45 million per year to be exact? No, it's not because of inflation.

Those after-death earnings are more incredible than his frequent Elvis sightings and "Weekly World News" reports that he's still alive, hiding out from fans--aged, obese, bald, suffering from osteoarthritis of the pelvis, still "all shook up"but still the King.

How about Peanuts comic strip creator Charles Schlutz who, though now dead, earns $35 million annually? Ask Peppermint Patty. Maybe she knows Schultz's gifted investment advisor.

Consider ex-Beetle John Lennon. He gets by in death on a mere $22 million annually, according to the media.

Andy Warhol, a central figure in Pop Art, survives on $16 million per year in his afterlife.

Theodore Seuss Geisel, the Doctor Seuss of "Cat In The Hat" fame, exists on a paltry $10 million per year. Online sales of "Cat-In-The Hat" merchandise help.

But life is never fair. Why? Deceased musician Kurt Cobain overtook Elvis Presley's number one ranking in after death earnings this year.

Kurt earns $50 million annually while second place Elvis has to make do with $45 million. No wonder he's "all shook up." It's tough at the top--even for deceased celebrities.

Now what does all this have to do with business and professional people like you and me not yet famous nor deceased?

To keep building your brand, legacy and earnings while you're alive and after you're dead as well, there are five things you must do:

1. Select excellent financial advisors and solid business thinkers. This is essential for successful people. Avoid gold diggers, hucksters and flakes.

Although Johnny Carson made $15 million per year, four wives and his financial advisor, whom he called Bombastic Buskin, diminished his wealth significantly.

2. Create your own brand. You areor must become a brandfor success.

3. Understand and use all of the market segments and niches available to you in your business or profession. Focus upon the ones that are right for you.

4. Use information technology creatively and boldly to build your business and expand your markets, here and internationally.

5. Establish and live by your spiritual beliefs. Keep your head screwed on straight.

This requires having and holding strongly-held spiritual beliefs and practices which guide your decisions, motivate you, and provide your moral standards.

Joel Osteen is Senior Pastor, Lakewood Church, Houston, TX. Each week 46,000 people attend that church. This church teaches Christian doctrine in creative, contemporary ways.

He gives eight pieces of advice to improve spiritually:

1. Enlarge your vision.

2. Develop a healthy self-image.

3. Discover the power of your thoughts and words.

4. Let go of the past.

5. Find strength through adversity.

6. Live to give.

7. Choose to be happy.

8. Remember that one of God's Bible names is El Shaddai. El means "God" and Shaddai means "all sufficient." God is all sufficient.

We need to trust in God to provide for us. God's name is "El Shaddai," not El Cheapo," Osteen reminds us.
